A LITTLE STRUCTURE. MORE ROOM TO PLAN.

Start with one connection.

Plotnodes helps you plan and review story structure. Keep writing the manuscript in the tool you already use.

01 · Create your project

Download Desktop, choose Create local project and pick a folder. No login is required. Save as you work; “Saved locally” confirms that the current revision was written.

02 · Connect the pieces

Add Character, Event, Location and Clue cards. Press F2 to edit the selected card title quickly. Connect visible cards directly, or drag a + handle to blank space to create a card before naming the relationship. Move cards, pan and zoom, or use keyboard-accessible controls.

Select a card’s + and then a destination, or drag its + handle to another card. Drop on empty space to choose a new card, then set the relationship meaning. Escape cancels; Undo restores the previous state.

03 · Keep two orders in view

Use the truth timeline for when events happen and narrative disclosures for when readers learn about them. Declare character knowledge so checks can compare discovery with later use.

04 · Ask for a second look

Local consistency checks work offline. They flag problems in explicit facts, such as reversed times or a required clue left unresolved. No warning does not prove the story is consistent.

The current Apple Silicon alpha can trace a finding’s cited cards and connections together on the board. Editing clears the trace.

Keep your original safe

Save a copy before a big experiment. A conflict preserves your edits and asks you to reload or save elsewhere. A locked project can be recovered to an independent copy; the original and its lock remain untouched. Recover previous restores the previous checkpoint as an unsaved edit.
