One More Lap at the Silver Star

[Verse 1] There's a FOR LEASE board in the window And a queue beside the door You brought the orange rental skates You swore you'd lost in eighty-four The girl behind the counter Puts a stamp across my wrist You say, "They've changed the carpet" I say, "Look at us, they wish" [Pre-Chorus] Leave the car keys with your coat They're playing one we used to know [Chorus] One more lap at the Silver Star With the glitter coming off the walls You still laugh when I miss the turn I still reach for you when I fall One more lap at the Silver Star Let the clock say what it will They're already stacking up the chairs But the music hasn't finished yet [Verse 2] You point to where the booth was Where we squeezed in after school Four faces on a strip of paper All trying to look impossibly cool Now one of us is in Toronto And one won't make it here tonight You send a picture of the ceiling With the little painted satellite [Pre-Chorus] Your phone lights up against your sleeve "Do one for me" is all it reads [Chorus] One more lap at the Silver Star With the glitter coming off the walls You still laugh when I miss the turn I still reach for you when I fall One more lap at the Silver Star Let the clock say what it will They're already stacking up the chairs But the music hasn't finished yet [Instrumental Break] [Bridge] The man who used to tell us off Is taking ribbons from the rail He leaves the mirror ball until He's put the others in the pail We slow down by the shuttered hatch Where you would buy the cheapest drink He gives the ball another push And lets us finish in the pink [Final Chorus] One more lap at the Silver Star With the glitter coming off the walls You still laugh when I miss the turn I still reach for you when I fall One more lap at the Silver Star Let the clock say what it will They're already stacking up the chairs But the music hasn't finished yet One more lap at the Silver Star Past the booth and the satellite You lift both hands for the photograph Then grab my arm to take the right [Outro] Outside, you change into your boots I find a little silver star stuck to my shoe
